About Temple History

The history of the Sri Parvathi Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple is deeply intertwined with the Treta Yuga and the legends of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to local lore, after Parashurama fulfilled his vow of rid-ding the world of tyrannical kings twenty-one times, he sought penance to cleanse himself of the sin of "Kshatriya-Vadha" (killing of warriors). To appease Lord Shiva, he resolved to install and worship 108 Shiva Lingas across the Indian subcontinent.
